DO YOUR OWN RESEARCH

Shekinah is a content developer, digital marketer, and the digital marketing coordinator at Dance Xchange. Her inspirations to become a digital marketer first came from her personal use of social media as a child and teenager. She used MSN, Myspace, Facebook, Instagram Snapchat and then TikTok to regularly communicate with friends and family. With the introduction of Myspace, she began personalising her own social media pages, finding a love in its creativity. As she got older, she realised social media could be used beyond personal use and could be used to sell an idea or a brand. This inspired her to want to learn how to use social media in this way and work within this field.

Shekinah then went to university to study sociology. Upon finishing her degree, she began researching digital jobs unsure of the exact job she was looking for but knowing it was in the digital industries. Whilst doing her research she found the role of a digital marketer and really like the idea of the job. She also found that to gain such a role a digital marketing apprenticeship would be the easiest root for her to take.

After being turned down from several apprentice roles she was accepted on to an apprenticeship with an organisation called Dance Xchange. Shekinah picked up many creative skills within this role and flourished within the organisation. So much so that she was given a full-time role after her apprenticeship with great responsibilities quite quickly. She continues to work with Dance Xchange and is now a board member of Creative Alliance CIC.
