EDUCATION PLAYS NO PART IN EXPRESSION

Reisz responded to music in a very different way from a young age where he was able to copy the sound of instruments with his voice. This became a skill for Reisz giving him a love for music and sound from very early. His emulation of different instruments led to him learning to sing becoming a very talented singer. Reisz then wanted to begin developing his own music. He was kindly given some basic recording equipment by a local producer and studio owner. Reisz then taught himself to make instrumentals as he did not want to ask other people to make music for him. Local artists began to like Reisz’s sound and requested for him to create music for them. This allowed him to become known in the city as a producer.

As he got older, he started to see and experience the troubles caused by poor environmental factors of the local area. After an incident took place that affected his family Reisz went to stay with an aunt in Dorset. Whilst in Dorset he went to support his aunt at the local university where she worked in the music department. His talents were noticed by a member of staff who asked him if he wanted to go to university. This was never an option or thought for Reisz, so he was unsure about the idea. After thinking about it long and hard he decided he would go. He then went to do a degree in music and sound engineering at Bournemouth University.

After leaving university Reisz met one of the directors of the Birmingham Opera Company who asked him to run a few sessions to deliver vocal coaching. Reisz and the director developed a relationship until the director offered him a position as the director of sound. Again, Reisz thought long and hard about taking this role as well as discussing it in detail with director. He went to visit some of the staff members at the Birmingham Opera Company and then decided to take the position after being interviewed. He is now a director of sound at the Birmingham Opera Company, works as a freelance producer and supports young people to develop music at The Yard arts centre.
